Weingarten LIVE
The Austrian Burgundy:
This region on the southern railway is repeatedly described
as the “Austrian Burgundy”. And rightly so. The combination
of geology, climate and exposition makes the thermal region so special.
Christian Fischer was once one of the first in the region who reawakened
the memory of the old tradition of making red wine. He showed how it is
done with his multiply distinguished barrel wines.
“It is always unfathomable
what our soil is capable of. Irrespective of whether one speaks of considers
the “Fasangarten,” “Kerscheln” or “Gradenthal”
vineyards – nature has been kind to us.”

The Vineyard:
The vineyards face south-east on the gentle
slopes of the Sooß Lindkogel, a rise in the Vienna Woods. The warm
soil on the slopes have an especially high shell-limestone content –
the best conditions for an exceptional wine. Among the red wines, the
Zweigelt, Blauer Portugieser, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
varieties are grown. The Burgunder, Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and
Chardonnay are cultivated among the white wines. The red-wine share is
about 85%.
